Flights Gone Crazy! Amsterdam to Catania

I thought I had the air travel all set for the above travel point, one way. I saw a couple of different options with Alitalia and Meridiana. Both were reasonable around $300-400 with decent travel times too [4-6 hrs]. Suddenly now I can`t get to Catania from Amsterdam in under 8 hrs, unless I want to spring for about $900, with Alitalia. Meridiana now says I can`t get there at all.

Will these airlines and/or others add seasonal flights? We need the date of Oct. 23.

BA has flights in the $285-$315 range one way. I saw AZ for $405 with a return on 30 Oct.

easyjet has 3 AMS-MXP flights and 3 MXP-CTA flights on 10/23. Two connections are possible:

AMS-MXP
9:25 11:05 €37.99
MXP-CTA
14:35 16:25 €26.99

AMS-MXP
16:30 18:10 €58.99
MXP-CTA
19:30 21:20 €26.99

The second one costs more and the connection at Malpensa iffy. But the first one get you there in 7 hours and under 100€ even after you add most fees.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. EasyJet looks like the winner for both travel times and price. This was a huge help, as most consolidator sites [skyscanner etc] do not follow them.

We will book with EasyJet to Milan and try to make an even better connection with another airline, if we can find something. If not we will stay with them for the entire ride.

The consolidator sites carry EasyJet, the problem is that EasyJet doesn't sell connecting tickets. The itinerary Ray mentioned requires buying separate tickets to get from AMS to MXP and from MXP to CTA.
