Flight Attendants wearing perfume
I just got off a North West flight. There was someone wearing perfume that was nauseating to the point my eyes were watering.
I was going to ask the attendant if that was considered a faux pas in air travel, when I discovered it was her.
I mean you are in an environment that captures every smell and holds it there.
I make it a point never to wear any cologne when travling so as not to offend or even set off someone's allergies.
Don't the airlines frown upon this kind of thing?

Techydude,
I agree with you 100%. I would write/email/call Northwest Customer Service and complain. Believe me, they will do something about it.
One time I complained to Southwest about a FA chewing gum. Yuck! If I wanted to watch cows chew their cud, I would be driving. No problem. Fast answer that it is NOT allowed and would be taken care of.
Curious

Definitely follow up with NWA. For a lot of us, something like that's just an annoyance.
My Dad however, isn't able to do public travel in confined areas for this reason. He's sensitive to a number of fragrance sources, usually alcohol based, which cause him to quickly develop serious breathing problems. It's a shame he is unable to travel by air - but you can't really regulate that sort of thing with the public. But a company sure should be able to keep their flight attendants from getting right up next to people with it. It's not always just creating a nuisance.

I don't care who it is, no body should bathe themselves in perfume!
I was just at a paino recital and the woman sitting in front of me had the most horrid perfume I had ever had the experience of smelling, which led to an asthma attack. I guess people aren't aware that some of us are very sensitive to certian odors wether it be perfume or those who reek of cigerette smoke.
I have a medical condition known as multiple chemical sensitivity. I can't even go down the laundry detergent asile in the grocery store without the fragrences bothering me.

I didn't smell any perfume on a certain flight attendant three years ago. Maybe because she was a he. I have nothing against transsexuals.
This flight attendant had obvious male features, large feet, large hands, and that certain 'voice'.! Again, I have nothing against it, but I and others in my group thought it was a hoot considering we were flying into conservative Salt Lake City. She was a good flight attendant.

Is life not too short to bother about such things? I have sympathy for anyone who has some allergy but what will be next, people didn't like the smell or strength of a deodorant someone was wearing. Wow!

James,
For the most part, I'd usually agree that most people are too dang fussy. But in this case, I can't go along. In my father's case, it's not some allergy but the loss of a lung early in his life.
I just always thought it was a shame he spent his life not being able to go anywhere a car couldn't take him, just so others could smell nice. When it's the flight attendant hovering over you though, it would be pretty hard to avoid the heavy perfume cloud that Techydude was describing.

What's fussy to me may be serious inconvenience or health threat to another.
When I met my husband he told me he was allergic to cats, but I thought he was exaggerating. However, I've seen him just walk into a person's house who owns a cat and start sneezing uncontrolably. He is in misery when anyone brings a cat onto a plane in a carrier and is seated anywhere near him.
I have severe floral allergies. Gives him an excuse never to give me roses! If I am in a room with a bouquet my nose closes and my eyes water. In movie theaters I often have to move as people sit down around me with strong perfume. If I can get distance and air I am OK. But in assigned seating in a closed space I am miserable.
Another is noise. I felt bad that I was being fussy, asking my husband to turn down TV, radio, stereo in confined space, thinking I must be awfully sensitive. One day we were hiking and I heard an unusual bird singing and asked my husband what it was. He couldn't even hear it. Turns out he has quite a bit of hearing loss for high pitches. I'm the normal one.
While I don't expect everyone to give up their pets, dig up their flowers, or stop wearing fragrances, I do try to exhibit some empathy for others and not make them sick. For my part, I try to remember to carry some antihistimines.
