Effective January 1, 2007 Delta Skymiles will expire after two years without no activity
This is a change from the previous expiration of 3 years without activity.
Since all Skymiles expiration dates are currently set to December 31, this means you actually have anywhere from a 24-35 month grace period depending on what month your last activity occurred. This assumes they don't change to a rolling expiration date come January.
Activity is anything that earns Skymiles or redemption which resets your expiration date to December 31 three (soon to be two) years from now. A mileage transfer out of a Skymiles account doesn't reset the expiration date.
Just FYI.

I checked the DL link again today and they've changed the language on their website about the new mileage expiration policy since yesterday.
They're now making it effective December 31, 2006 AND retroactive. In other words, if you had no activity in 2005 or 2006, your miles will expire at the end of this year!

Me too. The strange thing is that the wording of the new policy has changed since I posted the link yesterday. Someone who had activity in 2004 but not afterwards should have a current expiration of Dec 31, 2007 (based on current 3 year rule), but now according to the above link, their miles would expire on Dec 31, 2006 instead. Seems like a potential conflict and I don't know what's going to happen to those people. I don't know anyone in that situation so can't log into an account to see if the expiration has already been reset to 2006.

Topping as a reminder. All Skymiles accounts should now display the new retroactive expiration date. For example, my expiration is now shown as 31 Dec 2008 (it was 31 Dec 2009 previously). If your last activity was in 2004, your miles are expiring at the end of this year!

You could get Delta's FF card, get 15K miles, and 1 year free. I believe that this would extend your program.
