Do I go thru customs in EU

I’m a US citizen traveling from Spain to US with a layover in Amsterdam. The layover is only 1.5 hrs. Will I need to go thru customs and immigration in Amsterdam or not until I return to US?

Welcome to Fodors. Just the same as in the States, there is no 'Customs' when departing from Europe.

There will be security and a passport check at which ever airport in Spain. Then at AMS you will go through security and possibly a document check at the gate.

Arriving in the US you will go through both Immigration and Customs

As Jani said, there are no 'customs' when travelling from Amsterdam to the United States.
