Delta inflight entertainment on ATL-FCO?

I have asked Delta and they cannot tell me if my flight will have any personal entertainment or if it will be overhead only.

I fly from Atlanta to Rome, and back. The Delta website only shows that it is a 767, no more info than that.

Has anyone flown this route and know what the aircraft is: 767-300, 767-300ER, 767-400ER. Did you have AVOD?

Thanks!!

AVOD is short for Audio Video On Demand. That's the more advanced type of personal video screen that have more audio and video choices that you can start and stop any time.

But the DL 763 don't even have the more basic type of personal video screen where about 15-20 channels run on a 2.5 or 3 hour loop.

Instead, they have communal screens overhead.

767-300ER, and everything was tattered and well worn on the equip. used on my recent flight. No AVOD, in coach, Biz class was not up to date, no lie flat etc. Grumpy old flt. attendants, (both male and female).

For future reference, note that you can typically figure out exactly which configuration you're flying by comparing the seat map at Delta.com (or any other airline, if they publish seat maps, that is) with the seat map at seatguru.com. Comparing the numbering of the first rows in coach as well as the numbering of the exit rows will typically tell you which layout is being used. Seatguru will tell you which type of entertainment system is featured on that equipment.

But in any case you should never, ever assume that the equipment that's listed is the equipment that's used: if there's a mechanical issue the airline may substitute another plane, and if you've not made any backup plans for keeping yourself busy you may regret it. Even when the plane has the newest version of in-flight entertainment there's no guarantee that it will function as expected.

It was in the papers that Delta would be using 747's out of Atlanta and JFK to Rome in the near future because of the Northwest merger.

Oh really? I haven't read that. But NW's 744 have no personal video screen in coach either. And they only have one large screen in the front of each cabin section of the 744, so they are even worse than DL's 763s.

Here's a pic I took recently from the rear of a NW 744:

747s.....uh-oh these have to be real relics, especially if they were in NWs fleet.

Most of NW's 744s are 19 years old. Babies compared to their DC-9s.

mabern, look at this way--at least you won't find yourself sitting in front of someone playing a screen game as though they actually might win something. I can still feel the thuds of a finger against the back of my head from a MAD to ATL flight. Enjoy your trip!

I did read that they were going to change/upgrade the Delta planes next year but I am not going to count on it. If it happens for our flight great … if not … I will be as prepared as possible.

As Therese mentioned, you cannot count on it to work even if the plane has it. I do recall once we were on a flight that the satellite TV didn't work for about half the trip.

Anne … good point!!. I didn’t even think about that, way to see the positive side of it.

Thx for all the input. I will just be prepared for the worst case scenario and if it works out better … great. If not, hey I am going to Rome!!
