Changing airlines in Europe

Will be flying on Austrian Air but have to change in Vienna to Tyrolean Air (codeshare). There is a notation on the ticket that says "check-in at Tyrolean Air". I have not flown on a connecting flight with different airlines in a long time. I assume that I will receive the boarding passes for both flights at the initial check-in. Does the notation just mean I go to the appropriate Tyrolean Air gate in Vienna for onward travel/info or does it mean something else? Time between flights is only 30 minutes (airline booked the tickets and Austrian apparently prides itself on having very short turnover times).

Tyrolean is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Austrian Airlines, flying the regional and short-haul routes. So, while I don't know the specifics, I would think that you should be able to get your boarding pass for the connecting flight when checking in with Austrian before your previous leg.

Tyrolean is now being identified as Austrian Arrows. rkkwan is correct that Tyrolean now Austrian Arrows is a company owned by Austrian Air. The " former " Tyrolean planes are being repainted as they come due for extensive service checks.

You should be able to obtain your boarding passes for all flights at check In.
30 minutes is not a long time for the transfer , even in Vienna. You will need to really move quickly. Fortunately, the airport is not too large and easy to reach the different areas.

I assume you will need to clear Passport Control in Vienna and will arrive in Terminal A.
Your Arrows ( Tyrolean) flight will probably leave from Terminal B ( these are connected) depending on destination and often involves taking a bus from B to the aircraft.

Luggage will be automatically transferred to onward flight.

Good Luck!

Thanks to both. I'm intra-Europe so shouldn't have to go through immigration. I'm actually hoping the gate where I land is close to the one where I depart. Does anyone know if the intra-Europe flights land at Terminal B too?

Just found my own answer. Still have to go through passport control because I'm not coming from or going to a Schengen country. But Austrian Air says that no more than 15 minutes is needed to get to the next flight (!).

A long flight from, say the US, can easily be delayed by half-and-hour or more. Or you may be 1/2 hour early.

But if your incoming flight is late, they'll put you on the next flight out. So, do find out what time is the next flight, and be prepared that you may have to take that one.

look under Vienna Airport website

www.flughafenwien.at

you can get it in english

Look for map of the airport and transfer information. It may be helpful to you.

Larger Auatrian aircraft (A- 330 and 340) will usually use Terminal A and their Jetways.
Smaller aircraft and Non- Schengen Arrivals needing passenger clearance of passport control sometimes use remote parking facilities and you are bussed to Terminal and Passport Control.

The de-planing and bus transfer alone can take 15 minutes plus. Austrian Air is only providing you with the ideal transfer time of 15 minutes- not likely to happen.

Look on schedule for next flight to your destination as a "back up" You may need it!
