Cell Phone Usage
Hi, I have heard that US airlines now allow the use of cell phone in flight. But researching online it looks like the FAA and FCC still prohibit the use of cell phones for US carriers. Does anyone have insight on which carriers allow what?

Our rules in Canada are similar but with one significant difference: on departure, we have to turn off our cell phones when the cabin door is shut. However, on landing, we can turn them back on once the aircraft has turned off the active runway onto the taxiway.
Interestingly, in the couple of years this regulation has been in place, I cannot recollect hearing a single cell conversation before de-planing. But almost everyone seems to text or e-mail.
