Cell Phone Usage
Hi, I have heard that US airlines now allow the use of cell phone in flight. But researching online it looks like the FAA and FCC still prohibit the use of cell phones for US carriers. Does anyone have insight on which carriers allow what?
|
I highly doubt that any US carrier allows cell phone use on plane for phone calls or texts. They may allow them to be used for wifi, if a plane is so equipped.

Cell phone usage is prohibited on all US flights. Periodically someone proposes changing this. It is an FAA rule, not specific to different airlines.
|
I hope they keep that rule!!!

Agreed - imagined being crammed into a tiny seat, no food, sitting on tarmac - listening to some bozo shouting on the cell phone.

<i>"... sitting on tarmac ... "</i>
Our rules in Canada are similar but with one significant difference: on departure, we have to turn off our cell phones when the cabin door is shut. However, on landing, we can turn them back on once the aircraft has turned off the active runway onto the taxiway. Interestingly, in the couple of years this regulation has been in place, I cannot recollect hearing a single cell conversation before de-planing. But almost everyone seems to text or e-mail. |

No difference, same rules in US. |
