BIG change in Southwest Rapid Rewards

No more 1 credit per paid flight, it is now going to be based on points earned and then you use those points to get Reward Tickets.

Each type of ticket purchased earns points at a different rate:
Business Fare earns 2600 points per dollar spent
Anytime earns 2000 points per dollar spent
Wanna Getaway earns 600 per dollar spent.

To Redeem:
Business Fare costs 120 points per dollar of fare
Anytime Fare costs 100 points per dollar of fare
Wanna Getaway costs 60 points per dollar of fare.

If you have Chase Southwest card, you earn points - 1 point per $1 spent on non Southwest fares, 2 points for $1 for Southwest fares bought with card.

Points can be used for international travel if you have Chase SWA credit card.

Whoa! Wrong earning numbers in the above post. Correct numbers are:

Each type of ticket purchased earns points at a different rate:
Business Fare earns 12 points per dollar spent
Anytime earns 10 points per dollar spent
Wanna Getaway earns 6 per dollar spent.

While redeeming a SWA credit on a ticket for my husband today, I noticed that we will not be able to transfer your credits to anyone else, starting in February.

Times must be etting tough...

If you mean the dollar credits [that result from reissue of ticket due to lower fare or for cancelled tickets] that is correct. That has been published for some time now. These are referred to as "Unused Travel Funds"

The actual reward tickets earned will still be issued in anyone's name - for now, who knows when they will change that one. I was told this by a SWA rep in response to a post that I made on Facebook [see, there is some real benefit to FB].

I think that the elimination of "anyone" being able to use those unused travel funds may have been due to the fact that they were actually being sold in many cases.

You will be able to get a free ticket based on the expiration date [when you "won" the ticket]. So, if you got your email telling you that you earned a free RT ticket - the email will tell you the expiration date. You can also find that info on the SWA website. You log in, and then go to your account and find your travel awards. It will list expiration date.
---------
There is no change in who/how the Rapid Reward Travel ticket works as far as usage. If you earn a free ticket, you or anyone you want can use it.

How you earn free travel has changed. You earn points when you buy a ticker, you use up those points to redeem for a free ticket. Anyone can be named on that ticket.

Credit card purchases will earn points instead of credits. Details on that are forthcoming.

There will not be "credits" after 3/1. Everything will be points based. Any earned credits will convert into points IF you don't have enough credits for a free ticket. If you already have earned a free ticket, that will still be able to be used to get a ticket.

I just got an e-mail, after March 1 there will be no expiration date and no black-out dates for points, did I undertand them correctly?

I am talking about flight points only, not credit card points.
