As of December 15, 2005, AAdvantage members will earn up to 500 miles for each eligible Economy class ticket purchased at AA.com. Members will continue to earn up to 1,000 bonus miles for First or Business class tickets purchased at AA.com.

My husband would know more about this than me, but what's the change here? He's not home to ask.

Is it a decrease for economy class? (I hope not!)

Yes, it was 1000 mi for all tickets, now 500 for coach. As in one hundred nickels, as opposed to one hundred dimes. I imagine AMR shareholders are dancing in the streets over this new revenue enhancement.

Well, I'm not really sure when the announcement was made, but I was thinking Monday,

The shares went down to ~$18.80, very early Monday, today they closed at $19.61, so I did exaggarate a bit.... It was only $0.80.

I invite any of you who might be shareholders to ride with me on American coach, preferably in a CRJ.

Have not flown economy for about year and half now, thanks to EXP status and free upgrades

I will in mid-Jan as I have no choice but to fly from LGA to BOS on a CRJ.

I can't wait to pay a $1 for a soda. Pay toilets can be far behind.

Pay toilets are an excellent idea! This way, those who don't absolutely have to go will stay in their seats. Fewer people jamming the aisle, fewer people gathering near the bulkhead, and no or shorter lines for those who really need to use it.

I love the idea!

Also, I hate people staying in there for too long. So, I think they should put a timer on it. $1 for 2 minutes. After that the light shuts off.

It's not so unusual. My dad says that in Europe not too many decades ago, many hotels/hostels/dorms have coin-operated light switch. Just applying the same idea here.

And perhaps the airlines can lower the price for a beer, as they can make it up a few minutes later... Hehehhe...

And if you buy a coke on a hundred RJ flights you'll renew EXP and the shareholders will have another $100 in gross revenues.

And with a hundred cokes you can dance long and hard. Or hop, as the case may be, if they put in the pay turlets too.

For a minute there Gardyloo I thought you were suggesting they show x-rated movies on AA now.

rkkwan, either your sense of humor is dark or you are very young, rich, and lacking in empathy.

cfc - I'll let you decide!

Seriously, going to the bathroom is a major chore on some aircrafts, like the 757 which AA is starting to fly to Europe more often. 180 passengers, 1 aisle, everybody need to go after the movie...

As for paid toilets, let me tell you my experience in traveling in China. They were horrible before there are paid toilets. Now, many cost money, and they're all clean.

And I pay to use the bathrooms anywhere in Paris anyways (except at Mickey D), so why is it so outrageous?

American says they are cutting to keep their prices low. I don't see it. Miami to Madrid on Ibera's A340-600 is $830, while Miami to Madrid on AA's Boeing 767 is $1038. BYW, does Iberia have Video on Demand on this plane and does American have individual tv's in coach?

New York to London is only $11 more on BA. On one's third drink, BA is cheaper.

AA still does not allow passengers to do international upgrades on its web site; so one must pay $10 (at least) to do so with a telephone rep, which means losing the 1000-mile bonus for business class AND paying $500 per ticket in order to upgrade.
