Hello. I heard a rumour that United Airlines is going bankrupt? Is this true? Also, wondering what typically happens to one's ticket if the airline goes bankrupt and closes down?

I'm hoping to get a ticket to Oz and don't want to lose so much money if United does go bankrupt. Please advise.

My cousin is a flight attendant with United. She just started sending out her resume and signed up for a couple of classes at the local campus. She has 18 years of flying in, but feels that she needs to have a back up plan, since it's not looking good for United.

Please remember that "bankrupt" and "out of business" are very different things in the U.S. In the airline biz, it's almost EXPECTED that at some time or another, you'll visit the friendly bankruptcy judge.

Filing Chapter 11 in Bankruptcy Court just means that you are re-organizing your debt and your creditors must let you do that without threat of seizing assets. Filing Chapter 13 in Bankruptcy Court means you are liquidating your assets and going out of business. United Airlines is filing Chapter 11.

Chapter 11 = You will get to Oz. Just be sure to bring along a little duct tape and twine in your carry on, in case something funky happens to the plane enroute.
