American Airlines fare sale
This morning I saw an AA ad for reduced fares to Paris from San Francisco--considerably less than we paid last November. In this kind of situation, do airlines give credit for the difference in cost? If so, do I call and request a credit?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Did you already take the trip? if so, no, you are not entitled to any refunds.
If you just bought the tickets last November for a flight that's coming up, then there is a good chance you may get some money back in the form of a voucher which can be used on future ticket purchases with AA. The sale fare has to apply to the same exact flights you are ticketed on. If for example the sale fares apply to flights between 9/15 to 12/15 and your flight is 12/10 with a return on 12/20, then no, it on't work. Also if you read all the small print, you may see something like "Fares valid on Mon-Wed departures and returns ONLY", so if your ticket is for a Saturday out and Thursday in, again it won't apply.
But, the easiest way to know if you have a chance is to call, or go to www.aa.com and price the exact same itn. If it shows up cheaper, then you have a great chance of getting some credit for future flights.
Good luck!

I purchased RT to Boston from RDU recently at a fare of $189. plus all those other fees, etc. They're now advertising a far of $164 but in the "restrictions" fine print it says: "Rollovers from higher fares are not permitted." Doesn't this mean that I can't call them and ask for the lower fare, getting the difference in a voucher?

I called AA yesterday about the fare sale and was absolutely shocked at the response to my query about getting a credit for the substantial price difference over what we paid. At first I was told I would be sent vouchers for the amount--but then it turned out that AA will actually issue a credit to our credit card! I don't know why that decision was made, but I'll believe it when I see the credit.

That's one thing I can't answer with any certainity. I did get credit back one time on my CC. Most of the other times I get a voucher. I really don't know what pre-exisiting conditions warrant a cash refund or a voucher refund. I do belive that the only time possible to get a cash refund is on international tickets, but it's still not a guarantee, as I did get vouchers couple of times when adjusting an international ticket.
So, who knows, but hey, it's a good deal either way. Enjoy it.
