AlItalia

We will be traveling from MIA to VCE in 5/08 on AlItalia.
Does anyone know if there is a good time to look for sales? So far it will cost about $980/pp.

I will not book Alitalia (AZ) this far out. They are financially unstable. Even though chances are they'll still exist in May of next year, who knows if they'll significantly cut their service, or if there may be a strike on your day of travel?

If you need to book early, look for other airlines, though most won't have cheap fares available until around Jan. Or if you have to fly AZ, wait until last minute.

Between now and next May, there will be lots of news about AZ. Mostly bad, maybe a few good ones.

Also, I'd probably avoid them if you care about your luggage. They lost DDs, and then lost her in their computer system, and several other people in Fodors have had similar problems. (check out Alitalia on the Europe board.) Much as I adore Italy, I'd stay away if there are other options.

Wow!! I guess I am not flying AZ. I will feel more at ease if I am flying with a stable airline. Thanks for the heads up.

I will check out other airlines. I liked the idea of flying directly to Italy and changing planes in Milan, rather than going to JFK or Newark. What do you think?

Flying non-stop to MXP is a good idea, but AZ is the only airline that flies that route.

The other one-stop choices for MIA-VCE are MIA-JFK-VCE on Delta and MIA-PHL-VCE on USAirways.

Not only they might disappear altogether, they've been already BEHAVING like half-dead over the past 3-4 years....

Have flown with them 4 years ago, and they were the worst of any European airline I have ever flown with. And I've flown with most of them...

also set a fare alert at kayak.com and they'll email you when they find a matching price.

Delta flies nonstop from Atlanta to Venice too so you could go MIA-ATL-VCE?

Lufthansa flies from Miami to VCE via FRA.

AF flies to VCE via Paris.

BA through London.

US Airways was also mentioned above.

So you have a handful of one connection options.
