airline transportation cart

We have 4 people in our party traveling to Europe this Fall two of which have trouble with walking long distances without having a break. My understanding is that to get to Terminal E or F in Atlanta can be quite a hike. How does one get a transportation cart to pick us up at our arriving gate and take us to our departing gate, E or F and is there a charge for this service? Please advise and thank you.

Airlines deal with this situation all the time. Simply contact your airline and tell them you have 2 travelers who need assistance. They will make a notation in their flight record and have a Skycap to meet your party at the arrival gate with wheelchairs or a "golf cart" for the people who need it. The Skycap will take them to the other terminal.

The service is "free" but you should tip the Skycap - amount you tip depends on how long the transfer takes. If it were me I'd tip a minimum of $10 to each Skycap for anything that takes under 15 minutes, and $20 to each Skycap for anything longer.

Make sure you reconfirm a few days before you fly.

It has happened in the past that I made a reservation for my mom and asked for wheelchair assistance, but when I happened to call a few days before the flight, there was no record of the request in her reservation!

It also happened once to me personally. I had sprained my ankle and needed assistance. Despite asking for it and being assured that it would be provided, there was no one at the arrival gate for me and no record of my request!

And if you request this service on arrival in Europe, you do not tip. Airport or airline employees are not tipped but porters that you see landside who can help with luggage can be tipped.
