Air Pacific
I am going to Fiji in November, from the East coast of the US. I've never been on such a long flight. What do I expect? What kind of entertainment is provided by the airline (movies in the seatback vs screens, music, headphones)? Will it be difficult to sleep?

LAX-Nadi is served by 747-400, and according to www.airpacific.com, this plane does have individual screens in economy, with 12 channels of video entertainment.
I can't figure out whether they ordered this 744 new, or if it's bought 2nd hand from another airline.
In terms of how to make yourself more comfortable on long-hauls, there are many threads on the Asia/Pacific forum, including a couple from just this week. Check that out.

When comparing the service between Air Pacific and Qantas I would have to say that Air Pacific beats Qantas hands down.
Much friendlier and helpful crew and planes that a feeling of being slightly better maintained.
As far as IFE is concerned on their planes. Their 747's have individual screens. Their 737-800's which fly form Vancouver to Hawai'i and onto Fiji have drop down screens about every four rows.
The movies they were showing last time I flew them in May were latest releases (Actually they were showing one flick which was not yet out in cinemas)
Hope this helps

I flew with Air Pacific last April on the LAX-NADI overnight flight.
The plane is configured in two classes, the vast majority of the plane being Economy. Our flight was very quiet so service was fine, but nothing special, considering that the staff weren't particularly pushed.
The first meal was just sandwiches but that was OK because it was about midnight and most of just wanted to sleep. Breakfast was much better.
The plane wasn't new and looked a bit worn in places.
Each seat had a video screen with, as I recall, about 12 films theoretically on offer. In reality I think there was only 5 of the 12 video channels operational, but the selection was good and up to date.
In conclusion:- I found Air Pacific to be fine, nothing special, but nothing to worry yourself about.
