I had bad luck on the return.

I was #3 on the upgrade list. I think #1 got it. I was asked to board, and I did, and then the flight was cancelled because of mechanical failure.

I had to call a few times and finally I got routed on the redeye through LA. I was now #9 on the upgrade list, and needless to say, I didn't get it.

Wonder why they were so nice to me on the outbound. They even cleared me 24 hours in advance!

Oh, I forgot to mention, they did give me a complimentary upgrade on the SFO-LAX leg. I had already sat down, but they came to my seat to tell me.
