Bill, I think we might be at Ndutu Lodge at the same time.
Hi Andy, from your web page itinerary it sounds like you are at Ndutu maybe the 29th and 30th and our last night there is the 25th ... would have been nice to say 'hi', we considered going with you last January or February on our first Tz trip but I think you filled up early on the dates we had open, plus we knew Art from a trip to Bosque, so we went with Art and Todd.
On the flight back from Arusha in April I met a young Dutchman, Giedo from the Hague, who was on a Tz trip with you and Reichmann earlier and he spoke highly of you (he had been on a very wet camping trip in April in the Serengeti). I think he said he was going to the Galapogos Islands with your group as well.
Finally, on the trip to Arusha we are overlaying in Amsterdam a couple of days and a friend is taking us to the BBC/Royal Shell exhibit in the Hague of the winning images from last year's "Wildlife Photographer of the Year" competition, and one of your shots (tight shot of an elephant's trunk with a thorny snack?) is among the winners (Todd had a winning image too, flamingos at Lake Nakuru), so looking forward to seeing those for a little African inspiration

Just get on the web site of BBC or WHO and look up El Nino - torrential rains in east africa now and more to come. I'm booked ot go in march and am strongly considering backing out - too much money and dreams to have all washed away. 51 'extra' deaths in kenya due to flooding in november!

And I'm not a pessimist - just do some weather searches - not of 'historical data' but El Nino - it is happening now.

Here's yet another weather site, this one indicating the rains in Tz may be stopping for a while since it's predicting sunny skies the next 6 days in Arusha (yeah!)

Bill, I think you are definitely correct about our dates, unfortunately. Perhaps we will overlap somewhere out in the field, though.
Have fun in Amsterdam at the exhibit. I had a blast at the London exhibit opening a few months ago, and I was expecting to see Todd there. Seems that I was actually one of the few people who bothered to show up for the gala, so I didn't get a chance to meet up with anybody else.
Yes, Giedo has been back to Tanzania a few times since we were out on safari together in January 2004. He is a great person, and a talented photographer. I hope he continues his photography in Africa.
Send me an email sometime. I truly enjoy the comraderie of other photographers and those who deeply enjoy Africa.
