Trip Insurance to Botswana

I am planning a safari Botswana trip for May of 2024. My travel agent suggested trip insurance through Travel Guard. I went on-line and received a quote of $837. Does that seem reasonable or
can someone suggest other travel insurance companies? Much appreciated.

I either use Allianz or AIG TravelGuard. What your premium is depends on the cost of your trip and flights, but from my experience, that’s pretty typical for trips I’ve insured and I’ve also paid more because I’ve added on items I want covered. My last two safaris have been insured with AIG TravelGuard. You could also go on insuremytrip.com and compare many other policies with other companies.

Make sure to get your insurance within the period after your deposit to get pre-existing conditions covered (for you and anyone you may have to cancel a trip for). Say for example, a parent has an existing heart condition and ends up having a heart attack while you’re away. If they fall ill while you’re gone, it may only be covered if you paid your premium within the pre-existing condition waiver window.

I used insuremytrip to compare prices on trip to Kenya in March. Went with Generali as it was the least expensive at $433. Could have gotten it less, but went up to $500K for medical evacuation.

Recently filed my first claim ever; waiting to here if they will honor trip delays.

Getting close to purchasing travel insurance through AIG travel guard. Need input on whether to do the Preferred option or Deluxe. Is $500,000 sufficient for emergency evacuation or should I go a 1 million coverage?
Thank you for your input.

The last couple of times I got $1 million, but it wasn’t because I chose specifically that, it’s because the policy I chose for other reasons included it.

Have a look at Seven Corners. Price depends on where you live (including your State if US citizen/resident), age and cost of your trip. You can also buy only medical / evacuation and decide if you want Preexisting Condition coverage which usually adds to the cost.

Don't forget to check your existing insurance, credit cards, etc., to see what is already covered.

To be clear, that's how all the travel insurance companies work, mlgb. I pointed the OP to insuremytrip.com to compare policies and options.

You did not mention that cost also varies with place of residence. OP also asked specifically for recommendations for other companies.

PS once you are over 70, some options are no longer available. Also, they do not all cover COVID cancellations. Be sure to read the fine print on that.

For evacuation to your home country (not just the nearest hospital t hat can treat your ailment), you might also look at MEDJETASSIST.com. They sell annula policies and are not too expensive. That would be in addition to your regular trip insurance.

The price quote seems pretty low to me....but depends on your total non-refundable costs.
