tour operator question

Has anyone ever used or heard things (good or bad) about Base Camp (Base Camp Site Ltd)? Any other tour operators you would recommend? Thanks!!

Have not heard of Base Camp

In no order:

Roys in Tanzania
Kiliwarriors in Tanzania and Virginia
Good Earth in Tanzania and Tampa
Go2Africa in South Africa
The Africa Adventure Company in Ft. Lauderdale
Africa Serendipity in NYC

Check out the helpful East Africa Index that Lynda has so generously provided for many more companies.

If you state when and what your goals are more info can be provided. You've got a good head start on the planning.

Base Camp gets a lot of press in the "other" forum. The owner is one of the members but most of the comments have been favorable.

My choice: Roys

Good luck.

Our family of 5 just got back from a 12 day trip organized by Access 2 Tanzania - it was absolutely fantastic. I am planning on putting up a short review soon, suggest you also look at them.

My husband and I traveled with Warrior Trails www.warriortrails.com in October/November 2009
it was a great trip (My trip report is on the
thread...not quite finished yet) You can reach their
Canadian rep at [email protected].

They were great to work with in the planning stages
and own their own vehicles which many outfitters
in Tanzania contract out to other sources. And as
you'll see from my trip report...have wonderful driver/
guides.

Good luck in planning. This forum is a great place
for info...they sure helped me.

Oh..I forgot...Clamian Kitesha, the owner or Warrior Trails was previously, for many years, with Roys Safari Company.

Our most recent (Nov 2009) trip was thru Africa Serendipity working thru Roys Safari, Arusha. While there is a lot to be said for dealing with the actual in-country safari provider, we enjoyed working with Sandi as for one thing she is a phone call away and has an excellent working knowledge of safaris in EA. I will say that in the early planing phase of the trip we considered BaseCamp and such was in the top three companies we considered.
We have also had positive experiences with Predators Safari Club and Go2Tanzania as well as Foxes (southern tanzania).

As atravelynn suggests, check out the Lynda's trip report thread. A tremendous amount of safari related info is there but for the searching!
Enjoy the planing, it is part of the trip! Dick
