tom..... too much!

What is a senior? 50, 60, 70 or older?
Hey, a good percentage of visitors are senior as they're the ones that have the time and money.

rpokee - For 3 or 4-star, most any tour operator, whether in your home country or using an in-country outfitter, can assist.

Prices will vary depending on when visiting as these are seasonal; also based on the properties (lodges/camps) you select. Safari itself is rather sedentary, for game drives and time spent in vehicle between park-to-park, though flights in light aircraft (small planes) are an option. For activities as bush walks, trekking, etc. be specific when asking for quotes.

Take a look at the KATO or TATO websites (Kenya or Tanzania listing of Tour Operators). Select a few or names of those outfitters/operators other Fodors posters have used as indicated in their Trip Reports which can be found in East African Trip Report Index (on this Forum).

3 or 4 stars out of 4 or 5?

In no order, some that have been used with success for East Africa.

Africa Travel Resource--Britain
Go2Africa-South Africa
Eastern & Southern Safaris--Kenya
Roy's-Tanzania
Good Earth-Tanzania & Tampa
Kiliwarriors-Tanzania & Virginia
The Africa Adventure Company-Ft. Lauderdale
Africa Serendipty-NYC
Premier Tours-Philadelphia

Fodors has a safari guide with some suggested travel agents on page 25

The above are all Africa specialists.

Overseas Adventure Travel has also been used. They do trips all over.

Good luck and please post again as your planning continues.

Just returned and we used Pollmans for Kenya, Ranger Safari for Tanzi and Fishermen Tours for Zanzi. We stayed mostly in Sopa Lodges w/ a few Serena's thrown in....and we were happy happy happy!

Hi,
I would advice for you to post your inquiry in the KATO website and you will receive various replies.
This is because any operator registered with KATO is bound to be sincere.
Also you get the chance to compare different itineraries and the different quotes.Try this and you will not be disappointed.

Jaluo,

I actually thought KATO was a good place to look and I've inquired there myself. Can you tell me why some companies are dubious? Won't KATO kick them out if they do not do a good job? What's wrong with the companies you called dubious? As I recall, the volume of business companies do is included on the KATO site. That can help guide potential customers. I guess I'm trying to get a better feel for KATO and its value as a screening tool.

We have dubious companies like Planet Safaris and Big Time Safaris on Kato

I don't see those on the member list http://www.katokenya.org/katomembers.asp

We used
Sandi at Africa Sarendipity two years ago and had a great experience. She only does private safaris which we didn';t think we wanted at first but it was great and her price was reasonable.
