Subject: CLOSURE OF MACHAME LONDOROSSI ROUTES
NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS
We have been informed by KINAPA authority (last night), that the Machame
and Londorossi climbing routes have been temporarily closed until further
notice. Detailed reasons for closure of the route will be availed to you
in due course.
APPENDED NOTICE
TO: ALL TATO MEMBERS
The appended notice was issued in relation to a collapse of glacier at
Arrow Glacier which took away some human lives yesterday. The Notice has
been cancelled. A correct position on the matter will be given by TANAPA head office later today. We are sorry for the uncertainty occasioned. The confusion is a result of miscommunication between KINAPA & TATO OFFICE.

Comment from my Arusha contact:
It is only the Londorossi/Shira routes that goes VIA Lava Tower/
Arrow glacier that is effected. The routes via Baranco & Barafu are ok...
I hear that 3 Americans died & at least 5 crew, they are still trying to move
through the rubble to see how many more...
... the effects of massive global warming?

Very sad, but it looks like a rockslide rather than glacier.
