We're missing one night's hotel accommodation in Glacier NP
Have put together our Glacier NP itinerary and we are missing only one night. Want to stay at Many Glacier Hotel or Swiftcurrent Lodge. Have been calling Xanterra every day.....no luck so far? Anyone have any suggestions?

I agree that the Izaak Walton Inn could be a very good choice -

It's on Hwy 2 that runs between West and East Glacier. We stayed nearby in a private home and LOVED the location. You're going to have to drive that route anyway if GTTS is not open and we LOVED stopping every afternoon at the Goat Lick. It was one of our favorite things about Glacier and I think most people miss it completely -

We had great breakfasts at the little café at the Glacier Haven Inn -

The owners are so knowledgeable about the park and even made our boat reservations for Many Glaciers.
We ate lunch every day IN the park, but usually picked up a pizza or other food at the Glacier Park Trading Company in East Glacier -

BTW, the most hummingbirds I've ever seen in one place were at the feeders at the Izaak Walton's porch. Their restaurant is small but is supposed to be very good, especially the steaks.

If you're looking for something that's closest to the Many Glacier area, stay in East Glacier. Lots of mom & pop type motels. We've stayed in Jacobson's Cottages several times - a bit dated but clean. Plus, you're just a few miles from the Two Medicine section of the part - which in my opinion has some of the best hiking trails in the park.

However, as stated above, if you keep calling Xantera you will more than likely find an opening. Our brother-in-law had no reservations a few summers back and decided at the last minute to come hike with us. He was able to get a room every night at Swiftcurrent - although he had to keep checking out each morning and then waiting to see if a room opened up - but one always did.

If you want to be in Many Glacier why would you stay on the west side as a consolation?
Look for a backup place in Babb (right at the Many Glacier entrance), St Mary or East Glacier in that order.
There are a fair number of small motels there.
However, keep calling as there are almost always last minute cancelations in the park.
Don't just call every day. Call several times a day. What you want is to be the next person calling when there's a cancelation on your date in your place.

Why are you calling when you can check online? That's what I've been doing. It's a lot quicker. http://www.glaciernationalparklodges.com/

Forgot to mention.
Sometimes a few rooms are kept for various reasons.
Call and tell them what you have and ask if they can see what they can do for you.
Several years ago I spent 2 weeks trying to get that one night in the middle of my trip to Yosemite. Eventually I called and explained to the clerk. She put me on hold and a couple of minutes later she came back and had the room I needed.
You never know until you ask.
