I've heard "no", as well, but I was there in February 2005 and saw lots of wildlife, including about 200 elephants. It's also about the only place you'll see the baobab trees on the northern circuit of Tanzania. If I had to choose between, say, Tarangire and Lake Manyara, I'd pick Tarangire, even at that time of year.

Are tiy wondering WHICH of the 2 months is preferable? Or are you askingshould you go to that park during either of those 2 months?
I'd like to know your alternatives if not Tarangire, and also your whole itinerary.
If the choice is Tarangire or nowhere, I'd go to Tarangire any month. If it is Tarangire or S. Serengeti in Feb/Mar, I'd go S. Serengeti.

Generally for the period Jan-Mar, Manyara is a better choice. Yes, a smaller park, but you will find ellees and other game.
However, over the past few years, with little rain, Tarangire seems to work during these months as there is a constant water source at the park. Thus the game gathers here rather than moving outside the park.

Very nice photos. Some wonderful lights and compositions and excellent sunsets, thanks for sharing.
Kicheche Busch Camp is on my wish list.I see that you have stayed at both Main and Busch Camp. How would you compare the areas for game viewing.
Paco.

thank you for the replies...we are planning to go to Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro but would like to see Tarangire unless it is absolutely a waste of time. Dates not set yet so I was just asking in general during either of those months, not which one is better. Thanks!!

Absolutely a waste of time? Heck no, if you have sufficient days in the Southern Serengeti. I'd make sure I have at least 4 nights there. Maybe you'd like 2 visits in the crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site also, before adding Tarangire.
If you go, I doubt you'll be writing a "boring Tarangire" report.

Definitely rewarding the earlier the better. I would not recommend going in let's say beg/mid March as the rain might have set in already (well - n o r m a l l y ; but what is normal weatherwise anymore?).
I would plan for beg. of Feb and go to Tarangire. For sure.
We saw elephants, a HUGE rock python, Wildebeast (calving season!) etc etc etc
Happy Planning!
