Tanzania Visa - What method to mail forms ?

Hi folks,
My wife and I will be travelling to TZ from USA (SFO) in January, 50 days to go !!!

I had a quick question about visa.

The TZ embassy website ( DC) has no information about how to mail the application package etc. IS USPS express mail with a return envelope fine ? Or do they prefer any other courier ?

Thanks in advance for the help !!

Sorry if I take an approach different than the one your are thinking. Some travelers rather than risk loss of passport thru the mail get their visa upon arrival. Also saves a few dollars and does not require the two pictures. May take a bit longer at the airport but once done does not require you to also go thru pass port control. Go right to the luggage pick-up. We have always filled out the downloaded application forms and then see the issuing agent ignore those. Am sure others on this site will have great suggestions for the approach you are considering. Have a great trip.

As above, don't bother sending passport, application and photos thru the mail. Just do it on arrival... many do.

Download the application, complete and hand-in with fee (USD$100/person for US Passport holders), then pick up your luggage.

On the plane they will provide a Landing Card to complete; once in Terminal, go to health desk for card to complete re H1N1. Hand all - Visa application, landing and health cards and fee into agent (far wall "Purchase Visa") - you'll be set.

Note: If by any chance you are transiting thru Nairobi by land, you will also require a Yellow Fever inoculation and proof of same for entry either country.

Enjoy your holiday.

I agree with Dick and Sandi, just get your visa upon arrival. I've done it several times. You either stand in the visa line or the passport control line, so it really doesn't take any more time to do it this way. You also don't need any photos.

One more upon arrival vote. No hassles of lost in the mail, then.

I assume you are not planning on photographing tigers in Tanzania. If you have any experiencing photographing them or just seeing them in India, I'd love to know, either in this thread, email me, or respond on this thread

Thanks!

Thanks, folks, I agree that the best option is to get it on arrival.
But the situation is...I am travelling from the USA and I have a green card (non-US passport). I am not sure if Alaska Air or NWA will give me grief for not having a visa in advance. I hope the US based airlines know the liberal "on-arrival visa policy" of Tanzania and let me go, otherwise my months of planning will go to waste due to one missing stamp in my passport.

That's why I am trying to be safe....

Atravelynn, I have some experience in shooting Tigers ...I might be able to help. Born in India, I've been to Bandhavgarh, Kanha Pench regularly. Just came back from Kanha and Pench 10 days ago. Send me your email address and I can try to help.

We had a lady in our group to Tanzania last year that was from Brazil. She had flown to the US to meet her daughter and traveled onward with her to Tanzania. She had no problems getting her visa at Kilimanjaro Airport. Her visa was only $50 and I think that's all yours will be, as well. You could also check with Alaska/Delta (NWA) to confirm that they would have no problems with you boarding without a visa. Would the Indian embassy be of any help to you?

Shaytay,

Thanks for the info, it's very assuring to know about that person. I like your idea of getting in touch with Alaska Air and NWA, will do, thanks !!
About the Indian Embassy..hmm ...I doubt they would be of any help here. I do have a confirmation from the TZ embassy that there's no restriction for JRO arrival without a visa. Just have to get it clarified with the airlines now.

Thx, Shaytay !

If you enter your information here http://www.nwa.com/services/timatic.html the next page should have the following (among other things):

<i>Visa Issuance:
- On arrival: if required, a visa can be issued, (fees vary
between USD 50.- and USD 200.-, according to nationality</i>

This should be the same information that the telephone or check-in agent can see. If you have any issues at check-in, have the agent look up the information in Timatic.

You could also print out a copy if you feel more comfortable.

Tiger I have not read all of the responses but I am a green card holder & have been to Tz 3 times in that category most recently in Feb of this year. I never had any problems. At check in no one ever questioned if I had a Tz visa & we have got our visas on arrival each time. We have flown out of the US on non US & US airlines & it has not been a problem. Have a wonderful trip!
