Squirrels in Tarangire - Tanzania

Can anyone tell me why you don't find squirrels in the Tarangire National Park. I've seen on one afternoon drive, one lonely squirrel and very shy. Tarangire has lots of trees and as far as I can see it is a perfect habitat for squirrels. All the people that I spoke to in the Tarangire have never seen squirrels either.

Without getting into the taxonomy of squirrels a lot depends on types of trees present. We saw several ground squirrels around the Tarangire Safari Lodge this past June.

I've seen squirels here and elsewhere, but they're small enough and if not fast enough be a meal for other game.

Well, as they say the proof is in the pudding. aby - thank you very much for the beautiful photo.
Interesting thoughts, rnyder. I never really looked at different trees. Will make comparisons from the Selous (apparently you find lots of squirrels there) compare to Tarangire. Must admit though that the trees look very "squirrel loving" to me!
