Safari Lodge Photo Album

Hello,

Thank you to all those who have contributed your photos - a considerable backlog has accumulated whilst I was in Botswana, but I'll post them as soon as I'm able. The Photo Album can be accessed on the following link:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasher/sets/

For those who missed the thread which was the genesis of this project and who would like to learn more about the Fodors Safari Lodge Photo Album, I've pasted it here:

Just as all men are handsome and all women are beautiful in the dark, all safari camps look brilliant when being photographed by a highly paid professional photographer who takes pictures of the best room in camp in the best possible weather and lighting.

I've received a lot of requests for my pictures of Londolozi and Duma Tau, which got me thinking -- now that we have the Trip Report indexes and the Photo Kit in a Bag thread, why not start a Safari Camp/Lodge Photo Album with photos taken by real travellers?

This could help out both people who want to know whether they will like a camp, and those who want to know what the best rooms are in a given camp.

So now I'm asking everyone to send me their camp and lodge photos (Southern and East Africa). I'll put together a set of albums by country and post the link here for people to access.

To make the albums as useful as possible, it would really help to have the following information:

1. Name of camp/park/country
2. Room number and type (e.g. Suite 1, Mombo Main Camp) or name of public room (e.g. Boma, Londolozi Tree Camp)
3. Month and year of visit
4. Any comments about the room/camp (e.g. 'This room has a great view!')
5. Your Fodors username (unless you would prefer not to have it posted) so people know who has stayed at that camp

Pictures of interiors, exteriors, views from rooms, and shots of camp dining areas/pools/spas/etc will all be helpful.

Please send photos as small-ish JPEGS (about 600 pixels on the longest side).

Cheers,
Julian

Hi Julian
Can you also create a group for them? Then those of us with flickr accounts can put them in the group directly which will save you a lot of time? Mine are already up on flickr and was just waiting to find out the group so I could add them to it?

Ah, no, I see - you're using sets to sub group by camp...

I've got a lot of pics... is the easiest option for you to save them directly from flickr?

I'll send you my three Botswana camps -- (just popped over to see what's going on here lately. This year we're headed for France & Spain for a month, so no Africa, but WE WILL BE BACK!)

As per above, can you let me know best way to provide my photos and info?
I can send photos by email (if you can accept such) but all the information about what each photo shows is in my flickr set. Would also be good to have a note in the description letting us know who took each picture and in what month/ year?

Yes -- I fear my first attempt was way too large. Since I've found an easier way to prepare them. You'll hate me for the mess I've sent.

Hi Kavey,

The simplest way is just to email them to me, divided by camp, with information as above.

Cheers,
Julian

Hello,

The photos have really been pouring in today - keep it up! Just because a camp is already listed doesn't mean I don't want your photos - it's always helpful to have pictures of different rooms and camps at different times of year. Recent photos are particularly helpful.

The following camps have now been added:

SOUTHERN AFRICA:
Savuti Camp, Linyanti, Botswana

Nxabega, Okavango Delta, Botswana

Sandibe, Okavango Delta, Botswana

Simbambili, Sabi Sands, South Africa

Luangwa River Lodge, South Luangwa, Zambia

Ilala Lodge, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Cheers,
Julian

Julian,
There's no way for me to copy the information out of each photo's description - I wrote it in there directly...
I'll send photos only as at least the file names tally with camp names.
I don't have time at the moment to copy and paste the info out of the description boxes manually... there are a LOT of pics!

Julian, Thanks for this useful index. And as a warning to my fellow africa-philes, it gets addictive looking at camps you want to visit!

BTW...if you have contributed pictures, you may want to take a look and make sure I titled them correctly - there were a few cases where I had to guess what something was. Please email any corrections to me and I'll update the photo album.

Eventually I will go through and cull some of the redundant pics, but for now everything is being posted.

Cheers,
Julian

This will be a fantastic resource for anyone planning an African safari. Me for example. I suppose you will eventually sort them by country ? Keep at this as it's such a good idea.
