shockproof back up camera
Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a backup digital camera that is shockproof and weatherproof? Something we could take riding with us in Kili and not worry to much

It is possible to buy waterproof cases for some cameras which allow you to use all features down to a fairly deep level of water. I have one for the Canon S60. One of the benefits for this camera is that it has a built in underwater white balance choice. I know that the comparable newer models of this camera also have waterproof cases available. Not familiar with what other ones may be out there.

I don't think you'd need something too tough. I spent 8 days on Kili, and we only had rain 2-3 days. And, even then, the rain was light. Ziplock bags were sufficient for keeping our cameras protected. I kept my DSLR in a padded case hanging from my pack shoulder straps.
What's more worrying is battery life. Batteries tend to run down more quickly in the cold, and we definitely experienced that problem. It's a good idea to have a few spares - one that you keep someplace warm, like your pocket, and one in the camera. That way you can switch the batteries out when they start to die from the cold.
