Question for Hari
Hari--
I was reading a post the other night where the poster wanted to thank Hari for his help. Hari?! Are you a man? If so, I'll have to adjust my mental image of you. I have you pictured as a petite young woman. Can't tell you exactly why, but that's the way I see you. Will adjust, of course, if necessary. At any rate, male or female, young or not, petite or not, I do enjoy reading your posts.

O.K. I've revised my mental image. Why the curiousity? I think that it's normal. Anyone who reads the boards over a period of time comes to appreciate the regular contributors as kindred souls, and there's a sense of sweet familiarity in reading the posts of those who, by the sheer amount of time and energy they put into sharing information, form the nucleus of the African message board community. It is impossible, at least for me, not to form a mental image of those who I feel I've come to know a bit through regularly reading their posts. Sometimes, as in your case, those images don't square with the reality. That's why I've so appreciated it when posters have included photos of themselves as they've shared their trip photos. In the scheme of things, a correct mental image is not important if one just drops into the boards to gather information, but for me, it's nice to be able to picture someone whose contributions I've been drawn to over a period of months and whom I have come to view as a message board friend.

Hari a petite young woman? That image never crossed my mind. For some reason I picture him about 50ish, with a beard, reading Ernest Hemingway in a leather wing chair, possibly smoking a pipe and taking the odd break to answer my incessant Botswana questions. But 32? That's amazing that you've been able to go to Africa so many times. I'm 33 and this will be my second trip, with hopefully a few more to come.
