It's my understanding that surge protectors are designed for either 120 volt or 230 volt usage (the AC wall power plug-in). Both voltages are used in Africa. If you find a small one that is dual voltage, please let us know.

http://www.buy.com/prod/internationa...216778403.html

"This adaptor plug modifies electrical outlet, supports universal voltage 110V-240V"

fyi, you can get these for half that on ebay.

Dual voltage, price is right, $9 with shipping.
Plug/socket adapter and surge protector, so it says. Does it have good surge protection? Does it meet any of the testing standards, UL or ANSI/IEEE? Doesn't say.

i believe this is the same one--even cheaper. it's marked CE certification, and states that if you scroll down. so should that be ok?

Went to the link and then to their link for CE certification.
http://www.cemarking.net/ And read this, half way down page under "Take Control" -
"In 90% of the cases, CE may be self-certified. Do the CE certification yourself."
Sorta like a mail order Law Degree I guess

I wouldn't really 100% depend on any such device that at minimum does not have a USA UL or ANSI/IEEE certificate (or equivalent European standard). And preferably from a well known company such as Tripp-Lite or Belkin

That device may work fine, who knows? It will provide plug conversion/compatibility which you may need. And hope its surge protection is never needed. Still take more than one battery

ok, sounds good! the price is definitely right, so worth a try. and either way, at least it will work as a plug adaptor. will definitely take spare batteries and even a spare charger just to be super safe. thanks so much!
