scotsgirl, I hope to visit Egypt next year. yes, I did say maybe one day I'll visit Egypt on Abbys thead, that's because every year I say I'm going to Egypt this year and it never happens. I should have spent two more weeks in Africa when I'd been on a safari many years ago and spent the two weeks in Egypt.

Hi retired - it's a nice itinerary I think - in retrospect I wish we had stayed at Abu Simbel so I really like that aspect. Cairo is a bit chopped up but some say it is actually better to see the Museum after the Valley of the Kings. The one negative (based on my readings of posts here not personal experience) is the train ride instead of flying. Search for comments about the train.

Hope this will be your year for Egypt!

I agree with Elizabeth_S. You better check about the train. We went by plane to Aswan.
Be careful with Abu Simbel Hotel. There are not too many and not too god hotels there. We stayed at the Seti Ist hotel and, even if it was beautiful, it was difficult to sleep due to the heat and/or the noise of the air conditioning.
Try to go to the Light and sound show at Abu Simbel. It's great, and the sight of the temples illuminated by night really deserves.
At Luxor try not to miss the Luxor Museum. It's the best I saw in Egypt. Very modern and very good pieces. If you go in the evening you will also have the oportunity to see Luxor Temple illuminatid by night (It's very near the museum, in the same street).
Also in Luxor, as you have a free day, you could go to see some of the Noble's tombs. They're different from the King's tombs and have marvelous paintings showing daily life scenes.
I wish you enjoy your trip
