hi all, was interested if anyone had opinion of ngala tented camp vs. tanda tula? they both look to be good tented camps in the timbavati area. tanda tula is possibly a bit cheaper, and perhaps a bit less luxurious and more our informal style. BUT anyone know how their guiding, wildlife areas, and food compare? does one camp feel "closer to nature" than the other?

i have not been to either but to other camps next to them in the timbavati reserve my impression is that ngala tented would be the better all around camp for all those things you mention be sure and do not confuse ngala tented with ngala lodge i have been to ngala lodge and not keen on it

I spent 2 nights at Ngala Tented Camp in April 2010. Wonderful hospitality and accommodation. Due to the late rains the game was not prolific but still very good. Excellent food and a very inclusve atmosphere. Enjoy.

We spent 3 nights at Ngala Tented and though the tents themselves are luxurious, the camp style was informal. The food was excellent and the meal times were adjusted to fit people's schedules. We saw a lot of animals, especially lions, and large herds of elephants and buffalo.

The camp is small so it is quite laid back and accommodating. Ask for tent #1--it's at the end closest to the river.

The main difference between these 2 camps, is that Ngala Tented is a much more exclusive and luxurious lodge, hence the higher rates! Tanda Tula gives a more homely feel, and of course the accommodation is less luxurious. Depends on what type of lodge experience you are looking for? If you would like to spoil yourself with luxury and exceptional service, then I would definitely recommend Ngala Tented! Game viewing at both lodges can be very good. andBeyond is the company that manages Ngala Tented and their rangers are known as of the best in the industry. No matter which of these lodges you choose, you will have a great safari – just depends on how much luxury you are looking for?

I loved Tanda Tula for the more buddy-like atmosphere. More "hang-loose" in between the guests. Long family table and great conversations. Decent food! Good wines - they have a Rubicon on the menu which wouldn't be the case if they were rather down the hospitality road.
Tents are on stilts and large.
We loved the whole concept/product.
Guiding was excellent! Game viewing as well - pretty much the same as all in Timbavati.

Ngala is more upmarket but I wouldn't call it more luxurious. The food there might be a bit more sophisticated.
