New Year holiday

Based in the UK, I want to take my mum who is 75 to somewhere a bit special. Given that her mobility isnt great the quality of the hotel and surroundings are really important. She is always looking at Dubai and Oman in the brochures and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of hotels they had been which blew them away and were doable from a budget point of view.

ckaire,
that sounds fantastic and your mom will be thrilled!

hotels which blow have most likely a price tag which is in the upmarket segment.

knowing your budget (excl. long-haul) and expected lenghts of travel should offer a more solid basis from which to start planning/suggesting.

Looking at staying for a week to 10 days. Would be looking at 5 star I guess. Please make any suggestions and I can then do some investigations

have a look at the chedi, muscat

a destination in itself!

you could stop-over in dubai:

above link leads you to all the jumeirah properties incl. burj al arab (which in my opinion is not "stylish" but spectacular in a negative sense but worthwhile to have lunch there to see it;-) )

another one:

happy planning

Let me put my 'two cents' in for the Jumeriah Beach Hotel. On the beach in front of the Burj so the views are spectacular, but without the 'stuffiness' of the Burj (didn't like the ambiance there at all). The staff and the service were the best we've ever experienced. Nothing was too much trouble and the friendliness was overwhelming, in good way.

Happy Planning.

clair,

it would be very nice to learn on what you decided and finally get kind of "report" on your stay.

i would really be curious about your experiences.
