Thanks again to everyone who helped me. I have an update on what I have decided to do.
Based upon the suggestions here, I sent Proud African Safaris several additional questions. Basically, I received the response of 'send me your money and I will answer your questions later'! Can you imagine?
Anyway, I was so infuriated with this and the apparent reference game they were playing that I am in the process of making my safari reservations through my Travel Agent with Abercrombie and Kent. It's a heck of a lot more expensive but at least I am secure in going with a big company and I can pay by credit card. I do whole heartedly believe in doing business with smaller, local company's but it was just too much risk with a trip like this especially for my kids.
As soon as I get back from our safari I will post a trip report to attempt to at least give something back for all the help I received from this site.

You go girl!!!
You've gotta do what makes you most comfortable, especially after that response from Proud Africa... proud of what?
Why not post the itinerary you've decided on. Which parks/reserves, staying where, # of days, transport by road or air.

No, I cannot believe that reply. Yeah, proud of what!?
You don't want to subject your kids to that kind of service. When kids are involved, all the more reason to not worry about the expense and have a reliable company.
I'm sure you are sleeping better now.

Martha - I am so relieved for you. Your children would be so disappointed to possibly have a trip canceled at the last minute after so much anticipation. It is much better to be able to relax and go with a company which is very well regarded.

We went to Tanzania last year and used www.masiatravel.com out of the US and they were great. What I liked is they include price from US or UK all inclusive and used great lodges. Value for money we found alot better than any other quote we got and everything went smoothly. Ask for Jack Daniel, he was great at answering questions and helping.
