I will be spending most of my last day of Kenya safari trip in Nairobi.<BR>Any suggestions what to do and where to go?<BR>How safe is it?

Get a day room is my advice. We were sure glad we did because we were tired and it was pouring when we arrived back in Nairobi the A.M. of our late P.M. flight home. We stayed at the Hotel Boulevard, which we liked well enough-nothing fancy but safe, clean, good service, comfortable-there are craft sellers right outside the gate too. If you really want to see something go to the Giraffe Center, Karen Blixen Museum, the National Museum (which is near enought to the hotel to walk). Personally I would arrange a driver/guide to take me to these places (which we did on our arrival in Nairobi), but everyone has different levels of comfort.

We spent our last day in Nairobi, and went to Carnivore restaurant for lunch..(I had a vegetarian plate... which was kind of funny). Then went to Karen Blixen museum and to a giraffe santuary which was wonderful. It was priced as an ad on for our safari but due to a mix up with our flights, the safari company, gave us the day excursion for free (In my opinion, it was worth it to stay the extra day).

I've been in Nairobi a couple of times, and both times I went out to the Karen Blixen Museum. Her farm is just beautiful and you're free to just walk around and take you time. The Carnivore restaurant is a lot of fun too. Have a great trip.

Yuri:<BR><BR>If you care for elephants at all, a trip to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust at Nairobi National Park is well worth it. Daphne Sheldrick is the lady who raises the orphaned elephant babies that are brought in from all over Kenya. She allows the public to visit from 11 a.m. - noon when the babies have their mudbaths. There is no charge but a donation on the way out is appreciated. You would need to be driven there, but it is well worth the special trip to see these incredible animals up close.<BR><BR>Jan<BR><BR>Jan

Definitely get a day room. We got one at the Nairobi Safari Club--it was huge and their lunch was a pretty good buffet. They had security guard at entrance. If you want to shop go to the Collector's Den at the Hilton Hotel complex. They have the absolute best selection of junk to take home and the best prices on Tanzanite (reputable--they took a personal check!). We went to the Norfolk Hotel to look at their grounds--very nice!!! You could have a drink at their bar. We took taxi everywhere (the norfolk was only 3 blocks from our hotel but were advised not to walk--and we were carrying our Tanzanites so we did not want to get ripped off!). The rest of the time we spent lounging in our room,bathing,napping,etc. Would've liked to have seen Karen Blixen's home but will do so next time.

any recommendations on a tour guide for a day in Nairobi?

I second using Kennedy. We used him on October 1st. He was awesome. He took us to an authentic Kenyan dinner and then shopping in the lovcal stores! An excellent way to end our stay in Africa. If you use him, tell him Aaron says hello!
