Naibor Camp - masi mara [take 2]
I wanted to update you all on our familes progress since the horrific incident we experienced at Naibor Camp on 7 October. 2009
Firstly, thank you to all the kind thoughts from people here in Fodors.
Our family is doing much better - time really is a great healer. Our teenage sons are now back at school and enjoying being regular teenagers. My husband and I getting back to a 'normal life' .
Unfortunately, as much as we want to move on with our lives, my husband has now been threatened with legal action by the owners of Naibor camp if he does not remove any negative postings regarding Naibor and post a written apology....I cant help but wonder what they are hiding??
This really is a shock to us. Has anyone else been threaten by legal action for expressing their views and experiences on these forums?

If what you've written is the truth, and I believe you, this is preposterous.
Perhaps they could post their view of the event. Then more importantly, they could add the actions they are taking to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Such a response on their part would even serve as good public relations and could garner clients.
I understand how they may wish to take an approach of not bringing this up at all, but you certainly have a right to express your opinion. I'm coming from an environment that upholds freedom of speech, though.

Sounds like your internet posts have definitely hit a nerve! I'm not an attorney, but I think this is likely a scare tactic and they would have no basis for suing you. It's easy to threaten a lawsuit...it's a totally different matter to actually initiate one. What would the grounds be? Defamation? Libel? If your posts are truthful and they represent a victim's accounting of what happened, I can see nothing actionable. What I'm guessing they are most annoyed about is your suggestion that the incident was "an inside job". Good luck to you!

Hi TracO,
Sorry about your situation. Sounds very stressful, indeed.
How about asking Naibor to come onto fodors to state their point of view?
What courts are they planning to file the suit? in kenya?
Just a suggestion - can you please keep all posts in one thread, so that will be easy for people to follow and read and offer comments, if they arise.

I agree , why does not Naibor come on line here and explain their point of view, rather than threaten legal action.
Legal action for what ???? , telling the truth.!
I have no reason to doubt that what you said is true Trac0.
I am glad you posted what happened to you on your trip.
We all need to hear both the bad and the good.
If possible please post more about what happened. We are all here to help each other and I really do not think that anyone on this Forum lies.
If you got robbed, you say you got robbed.
If you saw a pink elephant, you say you saw a pink elephant.
I do not know what Naibor's problems is. !
Don't worry we are ALL behind you .

Trac0, I don't know what you and Naibor are talking about. Can you reference a link to this back to your original posting on this subject, I can't seem to find it. Or has Fodors removed it?

The Naibor incident is mentioned in this article though the camp isn't specifically named http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...-tourists.html

What defamation or libel laws apply would depend on what country they sued you in, and an international lawsuit would be very expensive and highly unlikely, I'd think. I wouldn't worry about it. You've told your side of the story and they've told theirs, so I'd just lie low now and not aggravate them further.
