Morocco itinerary advice

Hi guys,
We are planning a 10 day trip to Morocco in April-May. It will be our first time there.
There's one thing I wanted to get some advice on.
We want to visit Fez, Chefchaouen, Marrakesh and their surroundings. Also maybe a desert tour around Marrakesh, a day trip.
I came up with the following itinerary.

I added Tangier on day 6, since we made it as far as Chefchaouen, so instead of taking a 4 hour bus ride back to Fez, then taking a ~7 hour train journey Fez-Casablanca-Marrakesh, I thought we can just go up to Tangier, see some of that, and then take a train from Tangier to Marrakesh, I believe that train will go through Rabat and Casablanca.
We can easily skip Tangier as well, and just come back to Fez from Chef. If that will make things easier and it's not worth it to include Tangier in our itinerary.

For some info about us, I will be traveling with my wife and we are both in our late twenties/early thirties.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Nice relaxed trip. Couple of points.

Consider taking the overnight sleeper from Tanger to Marrakech, leaves Tanger 2345, arrives Marrakech 0950, see Voyages de Nuit

If by desert you mean sand dunes, there's nothing within reach of a day trip from Marrakech. The so-called Agafay Desert is just an area of poor rough ground which is neither sandy nor desert.

However you could just about do a day trip to Ait Benhaddou (stony desert), though it would involve about 9-10 hours of travel so would be better done as an overnighter. Another alternative would be to head in the opposite direction and take the bus to Essaouira (~3 hours), again best done as an overnighter.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I tried to make it relaxing and as unhectic as I could, while doing some exploring. Not a fan of trips with constant movement from one place to next, without settling in and taking the time to appreciate the place. It is a vacation after all.

Good idea about the overnight train from Tanger to Marrakech, I'll look into that.

Thanks for the tips about the desert. If the desert doesn't fit this trip I guess I might have to skip it this time. Essaouira looks nice, maybe we can see that.
