Mastercard not accepted in Zimbabwe??
I was jut surfing the net and came accross a site that said that as of the 1st January 2007, Mastercard can no longer be used in Zimbabwe. My Husband and I will be in Vic Falls in October, and both of us use Mastercard!!!
Is this site correct??

You actually should not use any credit card at all in Zim. I stayed at Ilala in Vic Falls, and ended up paying with my Visa for hotel incidentals, but the exchange rate absulutely is horrid!!!!! I would bring twice as much cash as you think you need, and forget the MC/Visa for Zim.

We were at the Vic Falls Hotel last October and they weren't accepting ANY credit cards at that time, only U.S. dollars. Since it's gotten worse politcally since then and inflatio is someting like 7000%, I would assume the same is true: cash only. Please carefully check the political situation before you go. It's getting hairy there. Though Vic Falls is probably the safest place, and it's close to the border.

Hi Mia78,
I have just arrived back from 5 weeks in Africa and spent 3 days at Victoria Falls Hotel in Zim. We could have used Visa but not mastercard but chose to use USD because of all the hassles. We purchased a bottle of french champagne from the hotel which was about $50USD but in Zim dollars it was $1,950,000. Amazing. We loved Vic Falls and would recommend to go there and we encountered no problems or whispers of problems at all whilst there. Keep an eye on the potential problems though just in case but as of June there were none.
Cheers,
Georgie

Hari,
Absolutely and thank you. Africa was everything and more than I expected. It was great meeting you and hope the rest of your trip was as good as ours. Once I get my head around work, family, etc etc I will write a trip report.

Georgie

Thanks, Mia, for posting this and thanks, Suzic, for the US$ advice. We will be staying at the Ilala later this month and were going to use our Visa for incidentals. Thankfully our room and activities are prepaid, but now we will take more cash to cover meals etc.
Also, glad to hear that Vic Falls is still safe..
