Several years ago I complained about all the tourists in London. It was kindly pointed out to me that I was a tourist as well. If you want to see the migration, it's not fair to expect others to stay at home just so you can have the experience all to yourself. (Environmental impact issues notwithstanding.)
Like Patty, I'm a big fan of off and shoulder seasons. This is true of wherever I go. I went to Kenya last February. Didn't experience hordes of vehicles. Still had lots of great sightings. Warm, sunny weather. At both Meru and Lewa Downs it felt like we were the only people in the universe. Same thing with Amboseli. Maybe we were just lucky. There were definitely more vehicles in the Mara, but not enough to be a distraction.
So if your life doesn't depend on seeing the Great Migration, I recommend visiting Kenya during other times of the year.

I hardly saw any other vehicles at all in the Mara in 2003. This year I saw some crowds and didn’t like it at all, but just at some places, a few times. I also spent 4 hours being stuck in a hole without even sighting another vehicle on the horizon, just a few kilometres east of the Mara River.
Kenya isn’t the Mara.
Kenya isn’t the Mara.

this is exactly what it is: a circus!
obviously we saw the same serval cats which is outstanding during daylight! (close to talek gate we saw 4 with mother)
but - despite we hate the minibusses and the cars from mara buffalo camp (zebra paint and no behviour at all when it comes to wildlife)we go back next august to see the migration again and visit "our" 3 cheetah brothers which we have been following for 3 years now, the cheetah mother with her 4 cubs of 2 of them jumped onto our car! etc.
there is no place on earth where you have such a abundance of all sorts of animals. and that is the reason the kenya wildlife service has already announced that they will raise the park fees in kenya up to 500 $ US !!! per day per pax within the next 5 years!

Wonderful pics, sniktawk. I love the servals cubs or pups or whatever you call them.
I believe that you accidentally mislabeled the cubs (photo FIG0431) in the '07 Mara leopard photos as leopard cubs. Adorable cubs but aren't they cheetah cubs?
