Maps of East Africa

What is a good source for buying maps of Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia? We're not driving there, but I like to look to see where we're going.
Thanks.

For an overall country map, I like the Rough Guide Kenya map (available through Amazon, your local bookstore, etc.)

For regional maps of the Lake Naivasha or western Kenya region, try www.kenyatravelmaps.com

You can also purchase individual park maps at the entrance gates of Kenyan national parks.

Does your nearest city have a specialist map shop? If so, I've found that the best source for my maps of east and southern Africa. You can browse almost countless kinds of maps. Try online too: http://www.mapshop.com/Travel_Maps/A...frica_Maps.htm

US-based Omni Resources (www.omnimap.com) is one of the best map online shops I know.

The following recommendations are all from my personal library.

Map recommendations for Kenya (all available at Omni):
- Rough Guide Kenya (licensed from Reise Know-How)
- David Watson's excellent maps of Amboseli, Masai Mara (booklet) and Lewa/Il Ngwesi

Map recommendations for Tanzania (all available at Omni):
- Reise Know-How Tanzania
- Veronica Roodt's excellent maps and guides of Ngorongoro and Serengeti
- Giovanni Tombazzi's nice sketch maps of the important national parks

Map recommendations for Zambia:
- Macmillan's Zambia Traveller's Map (this is the best, unfortunately not available at Omni)
- W.L. Astle's South Luangwa National Park (available at www.nhbs.com)

nyama,
Can you make some recommendations for Namibia? We'll be self driving. Thanks!

Patty, I own a copy of Reise Know-How's Namibia (1:1,200,000) which is very accurate but difficult to read. Freytag & Berndt is licensed from Macmillan and outdated. ITMB are nice travel maps but I wouldn't recommend them for self-drivers.

If you're self-driving I would recommend to buy (or rent) a Garmin GPS with map support and buy Track4Africa's Namibia GPS map (www.tracks4africa.com).

Thanks, I was planning to get the T4A Namibia map but wanted to a paper map as well. Would you say the Reise Know-How is the best of what's available?

Patty, it's the best I know. If you look at Omni there's also Map Studios's Namibia Touring Atlas which sounds promising, but I don't know this from personal experience.

Imagine finding that I was the one who asked this question 9 years ago -- I have the same one now! This is helpful still.
