Madikwe

Has anyone experienced Jaci's lodges in Madikwe? Any new lodges or camps of note in Madikwe? We're going in late May.
Thanks!

Mateya safari lodge, is the most luxurious in the Madikwe. Open now about two years.
Most recent ldoge to open, CCA's lodge, forget it's
name. Opened just after an excellent value property, buffalo ridge, the latter a community owned property, worthy of support.
Haven't been to jacis.

CCA's lodge is named, simply, Madikwe Safari Lodge. It is an excellent value at only R2500 ($400) per person per night sharing.

Mateya is actually an excellent value with a rack rate of only R3500 ($550) per night between May 01st - August 31st.

Madikwe Hills is similarly an excellent value at R2990 ($450) per person per night between May 01st - August 31st.

A quality tour operator should be able to slightly discount rack rates.

Here is a map of Madikwe to help you decide where to stay. Since it is a fenced park, I think it is better to stay towards the center from where one can drive in all directions.

Links to lodges are within the Google Map and not in the image on the page!

I'll be at Mateya late May and can not wait. Have heard nothing but great things about the lodge. Climbhigh, that is a great link. I have GE, but now I know exactly where all the lodges.

I just recently returned from Madikwe Hills and Buffalo Ridge. Hopefully I will have a trip report posted this week. Madikwe Hills was wonderful luxury.

I would urge people to consider Buffalo Ridge as the community based ownership model is key for future conservation success throughout Africa and this is the first community owned property in South Africa. The main lodge is stunning, on par with any lodge and their food was also exceptional -- some of the best we have had on safari anywhere. The chalets are very nicely done they just lack the 3 room sprawl and private pool of the big luxury properties but they also cost significantly less.

PB, may I please link/copy some of your lodge pics at Madikwe (and elsewhere) from my Google Earth maps of the parks/reserves?

I will place whatever credits you want on the images, including links to your web pages, etc.

Many thanks
Eben

Eben: that would be great -- I would be happy to contribute any images you want to your very helpful project.

Feel free to email me direct at [email protected] and let me know the best way to give you the images.

I am planning my first trip to South Africa in May and was able to use the earlier suggestion for the special Madikwe Safari Lodge and book at 1/2 price for travel during the month of May, this offer finished March 31st. Thanks for the great tip!
