So I started looking at lodges and they all look interesting. Game drives are important (not too many per vehicle and not overrun with vehicles) and also the food and accommodations are very important to us. I think Ngala Tent Camp and MalaMala Rattrays look like interesting picks (diverse styles) but realize we should consider two &beyond lodges in order to get the savings.

The other ones that sounded good were Lion Sands, Leopard Hills, Sabi Sabi Selati and Londolozi. Botswana Mombolooked great also, just not sure if we want to try and do south Africa and Botswana.

Ngala Tented should be good, I've not been there but heard good. Do not do Ngala Lodge, I have been there.

Ngala Tented is &Beyond and so are some camps in Sabi Sand - Dulini, Exeter, Kirkmans

May I highjack this thread for just a moment to ask Mike a questions?

Mytmoss, What program you are using to do your "photo art"? My new computer won't run my old program for doing photo art, so I'm looking for something new. I have used a Microsoft program -- Picture It-- for many years with great results. I don't like Photoshop -- too complicated for my simple needs. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

TC I use Adobe Photoshop for processing of all my photos. Because its so expensive and complicated, you might also consider Photoshop Elements. It has 80% or so of what Photoshop has at 1/6 the cost. It also was designed to be easier to use but still give you lots of horsepower.

Thanks, Mike. I have Photoshop Elements and really don't like it. I guess I'll be forced to give it another try, but I'm very sad to have lost my old program. It would accomplish the effects you have on your art with (literally) one key-stroke. I could waffle back and forth between dozens of effects so easily, deciding on which was the most artful. At any rate, thank you for the response. Your photos are lovely.

Sorry for the highjack. Carry on.

For basic image color corrections, cropping, etc, IrfanView works very nice. And is free.

You will love Singita! Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth every penny. We have reviews and pictures on Bombastic Life. http://ww.bombasticlife.com - We also did Phinda Rock Lodge in SA. Not quite as expensive (or quite as nice) but still GORGEOUS!

"Singita...but it's worth every penny."
Well, can't say for sure since I have not been to Singita. For their kind of rates, $1,600 per person night they'd best have a petting zoo. Where I can pet little leopard, lion, tiger, cheetah cubs. And some primates also - nothing cuter than a baby orangutan or gorilla!!!

ps - yeah, but, maybe their wine list would make up for it. Do they have Napa Valley (California) wines???

As your research to date has shown, South Africa has many excellent options to choose from when it comes to a luxury safari! I have stayed at all of the following lodges and can highly recommend them: Singita Boulders/Ebony, Londolozi Granite, Londolozi Tree, Lion Sands Ivory, Sabi Sabi Earth, Exeter Dulini, Ngala Tented. They truly all are excellent, with some (i.e. Exeter Dulini & Ngala Tented) being more affordable than the others.
Good luck with your decision!
