Leaving Sunday for Egypt/Jordan - another mummy tummy question
Hi - I'm just trying to be clear about avoiding/minimizing mummy tummy.
Do we avoid all ice, raw vegetables, fruits without peels etc everywhere we stay - including hotels such as Mena House, Old Cataract, Oberoi Philae, etc?
When we were in SA and SE Asia we had no problems being careful but in some hotels it was considered OK to have ice, for example........
Also - same conditions in Jordan? Thanks for any help.
Here's the link to our blog - we'll be updating as we go...

Technically you should follow all the rules. However, some hotels, Nile cruise boats, have water purification systems, so ice cubes are ok. You can ask and hope to trust their replies; if not, then don't use... simple as that.
We used ice for drinks in both Egypt and Jordan, but then we might just have iron tummies... no problems. We're still all different, so base this on your own circumstance.
If you see bottled water in bathrooms, this is indicative not to drink the tap water. But ice may be prepared with bottled water or thru their purified water.
Use your good judgement.

I went to egypt last year and stayed at Mena House and Old Cataract- i didn't have a problem with any of their food and water- and i don't have a great stomach. We ate fruits and veggies and were fine. Both breakfast buffets were amazing - they were our favorites of the trip.

I was at the Mena House last February and I did get mummy tummy. Just for a day, though. I ate all my meals there so it must have been something I inadvertently got there. So I would follow the rules if I were you. I love the Mena House and hope to go there again.

PamR - this morning I was dragged kicking and screaming out of Mena House - boy we loved that hotel.......the saving grace is right now we're at the Kempinski Ishtar Dead Sea Resort outside of Amman - it is absolutely beautiful too

I followed all of the rules you named and I was sick like you wouldn't believe!! Bring a good supply of Immodium and if you run out (as I did) you can buy meds very cheaply at pharmacies in Egypt. The meds I bought there actually worked better than the stuff I brought from home.
