Yesss! Oh, Lynda, thank you so much for asking, I think my friends (non-Fodor friends, that is) and family are sick of hearing about this from me every two minutes!
The deal is that if Nairobi is a problem, Micato will take us into the bush a day early. It's still only Saturday, and I leave Monday, so anything can happen. But I did get very reassuring e-mails this morning from both Dennis Pinto and Fran.
So now I am immersed in packing and I think I would rather be eaten by a lion!!!!!!!
(I am only about 5 pounds over, counting my backpack but not counting my handbag and all of the odds and ends I haven't put in yet, but so be it- there's not a thing i can do about it except go naked into the wild.)

I am SO glad to see that your trip is still on! I am sure everything will be OK, and I know for sure Micato will take VERY good care of you and well out of the way of any problems.
Packing, oh yes, that is a problem! I remember...
Put anything heavy in your backpack, because they won't weigh either your backpack or your handbag, and now you are done! Presto!
We were weighed at Wilson in 2006 as we ere leaving for Amboseli on our first leg, and that was all that trip. In 2007 we were again weighed as we were leaving Nairobi at Wilson, and then once agin when we were leaving Tanzania (Arusha) to fly back to Nairobi at the end. But never did they weigh our backpacks or handbags (thank goodness)
Have a WONDERFUL trip Jess, and if you get the following give them all a BIG HUG from Lynda-
Daniel (safari director) for Kenya
Renny (safari director) for Tanzania
Steven or Bernard for drivers in Tanzania
And please say hi to Jane for Jim and I and tell her we will be back next year!

Jess...You will have a great time.
Micato keeps a close watch on all that is going on.
When we were there last year instead of driving from Masa Maru thru Nairobi to Mt. Kenya Safari Club, they elected to fly us directly into Nanyuki Airport. Charles never said why, but it was an added expense for Micato to keep us from some situation that they wanted us to avoid. Have fun and report back.

It is so great hearing from all of you. My kids are resigned to my decision to go - no matter what.
My plane is scheduled to leave tonight but I am too excited to sleep. The dog is boarded and the cats seem to know "something's up." Today there is a massive snowstorm, - all schools canceled, etc. So my first adventure will be getting to the airport! My duffle is down to about 28 1/2 pounds, the backpack is around 9 (the handbag -who knows?) and I am assuming I'll be OK (especially -- and this is sad -- since there will likely be fewer people on planes).

Jess - have a blast. I did the Heart of Kenya and Tanzania in June 06 and loved it!! Our guides were fantastic. We had Kennedy and Gus as Safari directors in Kenya and Tanzania and Tonnie before that. They are all so special and no matter who you get - you will return singing their praises!!

Wow, what a day, Jess!! Hopefully you have got the chain saw out...
And 28 1/2 lbs - ohmigosh you did GREAT!!! That's almost 5 pounds under - wow! I'm impressed. Considering the bag is 8.5 lbs, clothes are about 13 lbs, that means you didn't pack much 'stuff'.
Go forth, young lady & have a GREAT time! Post when you can, the Norfolk has pretty good internet in case they don't take you out of the hotel until the flights to the bush, that will give you something to do!
