itinerary HELP
We are planning a 21 day trip to South Africa in early April and have worked out the following itinerary:
fly Joburg overnight
Simabambili game reserve 5 nights
Singita Game Reserve 4 nights
2 nights Vic Falls
2 nights Cape Town
booked Pride of africa rovos rail train Cape Town-Pretoria 2 nights
Question is should we fly Vic Falls to Cape Town and then drive winelands and garden route? or are we better off flying Vic Falls to George or Krysna and working our way via rental car to Cape Town? How much time should we allow for driving?
Appreciate ANY input. Turns out I have discovered South Africa is A LOT BIGGER than I thought!
Thanks, Fran

suggest that if your return flight is ex Cape Town, then your latter suggestion is best, drive from Knysna.
If however you are out of JNB, drive up to PE from Cape Town and catch a flight to JNB and home. BTW, I do think that you'd do better to start in PE than Knysna as I think there is better lift to PE.

As much as I enjoyed my own personal experiences at both Simbambili and Singita, I would likely cut it down to a total of about 7 nights in the Sabi Sand to allow a couple more nights in Cape Town. Also, given the weather, I would probably start in Cape Town, if possible, and finish up with the safari.

Appreciate input. We are locked into itinerary as posted. To be more specific:
April 3-4 flight to Joburg
April 4 overnight Michelangelo
April 5-10 Simbambili
April 10-13 Singita
April 14-16 Victoria Falls Hotel
April 16 Fly to ????
6 days for garden route, cape town?
booked Mount Nelson
April 21 Pride of Africa train to Pretoria
April 24 fly home from Joburg
Have read other threads and it seems that the garden route winelands cape town can be done in 6 days?? Looking for suggestions of places to book if I can do it?
REALLY appreciate experiences of others. including where best to rent a car for garden route. Thanks!

I agree with the other poster: a little game park goes a long way and cape town is spectacular. there is so much to do in the area that isn't possible to cram into two days.
i've driven the route from port elizabeth, via knysna, to cape town and it's a long but beautiful trip.
cheers,
maggy
