Is it too late to go on a Safari?
Hi,
I am currently in Philadelphia, USA. I am a MBA student, 28, male. No this is not a personal!
I have Spring Break vacation next week, i.e. from March 01 for about 10 days.
I was wondering....is there any sense and possibility in trying to go on a Safari or is it too late?
I have never been before and will travelling alone.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
RJ

Ha Ha....I was looking to spend about 3k including air fare from Philadelphia
My others options are go home to India for 10 days or go to Thailand and maybe Cambodia. I have obviously visited India! and been to Thailand (just the main tourist cities) with family a few times...
Thus wanted to try something new...
But time is short...!
Thanks,
RJ

Rj,
Hi!!! Yep....you know it's cricket madness here......24/7!!!!
It takes time and planning to go to the right place/season etc etc.,
Africa travel is getting more and more popular and space seems limited......
Either way, i think early March.....Tanzania is your best option for good game viewing.
write to Roy safaris in Arusha, Tanzania to see what last minute options are available......
I dont have any personal experience with them, but, definitely write them.......i'm sure they can work something out for you.
Are flight tix available? March is very busy migration season for Tanzania.......

You can still try to have a look on the 'last minute' offers on the site MTBeds... (www.mtbeds.co.za) and type in game lodges Kruger park for instance. Or even CCAfrica Asap safaris, you never know!
Good luck

Africa is a big continent. The first few replies seem geared to East Africa and Tanzana in particular. The last post is for South Africa.
Before you even contact say Roy Safaris at www.roysafaris.com (for Tanzania) or MTbeds for South Africa), check to see if you can get air tickets to either Kilimanjaro (JRO) Tanzania (or Nairobi, Kenya from where you can transfer to Tanzania, by road or short air flight) or Johannesburg (JNB) SA. Tickets booked within 10-days tend to be expensive. If tickets available and price is right - make the contact to the two above and see what's available and whether the prices fit your budget.
Maybe, contact AfricaPoint in Nairobi Kenya, an in-country wholesalers who might have a ground trip that you can join. They have competitive prices that might work with your budget.
Be aware that it is high-season in Tanzania with high-prices, but budget camping might suit your needs, even as a single traveler. And hopefully, the rains have stopped.
Keep us posted. Good luck!

One of your best options is joining a tour:
try EXPLORE http://www.explore.co.uk/worldwide/index.jsp
They have tours of Namibia, Botswana SA, Tanzania, Kenya Madagascar etc'
select where at http://www.explore.co.uk/worldwide/d...tionafrica.jsp
<font color="green">There's a "late availability" button on their site!! </font>
Their search is superb & u can search by date or destination
prices are fair (IMO)
& the chances are u'll be meeting many students/young people
If u think about camping in Tz/Ke: i recommend GAmeTrackers
http://www.gametrackersafaris.com/
good luck

Hi All,
Thanks for your messages, I really appreciate it. Sorry for not writing earlier today.
I think I am going to postpone the Africa trip since planning it in one week seems a bit rushed and I dont want to sacrifice my first safari experience due to limited time.
I really appreciate all the help though, and will keep you posted on my travels!
Thanks,
RJ
