How to get to Mafia Island?

How can one get from Moshi to Mafia Island? Budget options preferred, but anything would help.

I believe Coastal Aviation flies from Arusha to Mafia. Approximately $200 USD per person one way or $350 return.

Maybe even a flight from JRO to DAR for connection to Mafia. JRO is closer to Moshi (45/min) then go all the way to Arusha/ARK (1.45/hrs). Even a Coastal flight from ARK may stop at DAR... few non-stops.

Mafia is great for divers; few hotels/resorts here; even fewer with air conditioning.

Have a look at the Coastal Air web site. In the "from" city you will find all their departure air strips listed. By putting Mafia in the destination, you can get the routing and schedule. It's quite easy. We flew from Dar to Mafia after our So. Tanzania safari. Very good airline.

We used Coastal Air from Selous to Mafia via Dar and had a great flight (I even got to sit in the co-pilots seat on the flight). Mafia has some great diving. We stayed at Pole Pole, great bungalows with air -con and, being run by an Italian woman, great food!

Pole Pole with AC? I'm really surprised to hear this. The rooms are not air tight in any way. There are no doors or windows with glass -- only screen. How would air work? All of the common areas are completely open air, too. The resort also takes pride in being environmentally low impact. They have a new brochure on-line and it doesn't mention AC.

Crellston, When were you last at PP?
