Help with Kenya trip

What would you suggest after our Safari to Kenya is completed? We are limited on our air tickets.
We are on a 9 day tour:
Nairobi,Sweetwaters Game Reserve,Samburu Natl Reserve,Samburu Natl Reserve,Masai Mara Natl Reserve, will all be included.

Would you do something else in Kenya for 4 nights or stopover in Paris for 4 nights? We are allowed this free stopover if we would like it. If staying in Kenya, what would you suggest we do?
This is our first trip to Africa. Air tickets to other areas are very expensive.

When are you traveling (month/year)? How many days at each of the parks/reserves you mention; names of lodges/camps?

...Paris is a great opportunity, but your budget for this stop can be pricey, comparing USD/Euro - hotels, meals, transportation and tours.

Just returned from a safari (June 28-July 19) through Kenya and upon completion we had our travel guide arrange a stay in Mombasa. RT flight was about $200 US (Niarobi-Mombasa) and stayed at the Whitesands. Go half board and you can keep the price down. Whitesands is a beautiful resort right on the Indian Ocean. This was a great way to end our safari and the people in Mombasa were just as friendly as they were throughout our safari. Have a GREAT time.

I think that stopping in Paris is a wonderful idea. Compared to other cities, Paris is not especially expensive, particularly if you use good judgment in where you stay and eat. For those on a tight budget, I'd recommend staying at an apartment-hotel, such as the Citadines chain: you get a lot of space, plus you can save money by using the kitchenettes to good advantage.

I would also very much recommend stopping in Paris (or another European city) on the way to your safari, rather than on the way back. Stopping on the way over gives you time to adjust to jet lag (eastern and souther Africa are on the same time as western Europe at this time of year).

Hello KWP,

No contest. You are in Kenya but all you have seen are animals and game lodges. Wonderful but only part of the story!! You may never go there again - so I'd spend those 4 days on the coast with it's Swahili/Arabic heritage and great beaches.

First choice would be Lamu (fly there from NBI or Mombasa). Thereá a small town to explore; beach and water the temperature of a warm bath; and trips to fish or visit other islands on a dhow. Fabulous!

Otherwise a resort near Mombasa cos Mombasa is worth a look. Or if just beach appeals my favourite is Dyani on the south coast. I confess it's a while since I was there; maybe someone else will chime in.

last but not least - take the train from Nairobi to Mombasaon your way to the coast, if that's what you decide to do.

Paris is great too, but much easier to get to another time.

Cheers.

For a contrarian perspective, you can see beaches, islands, sand and do water sports in most places. But there is only one Paris (or London, Amsterdam, etc.). The option to spend a few days there without any additional airfare expense is really tough to beat, imo.

If you can even consider Paris instead of Kenya, I’d suggest Nairobi as an alternative. It’s safer and more fun – and there’s only one Nairobi. Though, for uniqueness, Lamu beats both Paris and Nairobi. Or, why not spend those 4 nights visiting some Rift Valley lakes?

Hi there, if it is your first time to travel to Africa then i would suggest that you contact your tour agent to organize for you the activities you would undertake while in Africa There are many tour companies which offer very good packages. for example All Seasons Safaris,Mutua Tours,Kaperi Tours. These are just a few examples there are so many of them.
I once used All Seasons and found their services very professional
Regards
