Governor' Camp (Main) or Intrepids?

I am going to the Masai Mara in September and cannot decide between Governor's Camp (main) or Intrepids.

Keep in mind I will be traveling alone and am in my early 40's.

Any suggestions, pros/cons would be helpful.

We were at Intrepids for five nights in January and it was our favorite camp/lodge in Kenya (actually the only place we stayed in Kenya that we really liked). Plenty of cats (by Kenya standards) close by. Would return in a heartbeat ... never been to Governor's so can't compare.

Hi Clueless

I have not been to Mara Intrepids, but Samburu Intrepids is a wonderful camp.

Main Governors is quite a large camp and has around 35 to 40 tents. Little Governors is much more intimate with less than 20 tents, but used to be slightly more expensive that main.

I have been to Little 4 times, so they must be doing something right, but I have not been there since 2004.

At Little Governors you can request to take a packed breakfast so your am game drive can last from around 6:00 to 12:00. If you go in the migration season you spend all day at the river if you are waiting for a crossing.

Hope this helps you.

Both are larger camps - between 30-40/tents; Intrepid's smaller with 30.

Governor's is located inside the Triangle on the west side; Intrepid's on the east side, so both are well positioned.

Intrepid's was completely refurbished last year, so all new tents, bathrooms, furnishings.

If the prices the same or close, it's a toss-up!

Intrepid's might be a tad bit more expensive than Main Governor's. However, Intrepid's does do 3/game drives daily - 6:30am, 10am and 3:30pm.

Clueless, if the price is the same I’d chose Governor’s. I’ve been to Intrepids and it’s a beautiful camp, but a bit too resort-like and the tents are a bit over the top to be called tents. I also like the location, the vehicles and I think most of the guides are good. What I like the least is that it is fenced. Governor’s is unfenced. My impression is that it’s easier to get a special offer at Intrepids. Also, Intrepids is flexible with game drives and I prefer to take a packed breakfast and stay out until lunch to doing two short game drives in the morning.

I have been to Little Governor's, but, i'm afraid the experience may be a little outdated as that was in 2002. I loved it ...... great gameviewing, and got the timing spot on in time for the migration which was right around the camp area.

Haven't been to Intrepids, so haven't a clue......
