oh, I'm afraid if I win the lottery I may find myself investing in a place in Verona I've dreampt about for many years...But I'm perfectly willing to swap a couple weeks in Italy for a couple weeks in Kenya with you, anytime, SusanLynn. (Of course I may change my tune after visiting Botswana this May )

Uh Oh-
Where are you going in May? I don't remember. Well, hurray, at least its Botswana. You must read the series about Precious Ramotswe and the 1st Ladies Detective Agency in Botswana. Wonderful series. I will look at every traditionally built Motswana woman and have to curb the urge to go up and introduce myself to her.
I am getting into the mood for the Delta. I shouldn't say to not be afraid of the medoro ride for we almost were overtaken by a hippo at Pom Pom when we were there. I am going back for another ride and hopefully more. You sure feel powerless when you are being chased though. We'll have to compare notes.
Is anyone else going in April?

We're spending 3 days in Cape Town (the middle day we will tour with Selwyn, Kavey & Pete and Alison's family to a township, winery and a fabulous dinner & evening at Moyo)then we'll fly to Maun for ccafrica's safari, visiting 2 nights each at Sandibe, Savute Safari Camp, and Nxabega (flying between). Then back to Cape Town where we'll pick up a car and do 4 days in the winelands (we LOVE wine and gorgeous countryside.) It's gonna be a great trip. We've gotten the necessary shots and Rx's and pretty much decided what to pack.

I did read one of the Precious detective series books. It was fun. My fav book, however was Looking for Lovedu, which was non-fiction and a terrific report about the importance of gauging the suitability of your travel companions!

Lucky you, Capetown with the group sounds super. I envy you the CC Africa's camps in Botswana. They look really nice. I'll be anxious to hear. I cannot spare a day to go to Capetown. I am strictly a bush person. Every minute there is spent on safari. I hurry as fast as I can to get to the bush and nestle into my tent. It sounds fun though and many here love Capetown and its environs. So you're in good company.
My husband and I always go solo so we don't worry about companions. At the small camps you aren't really 'with' others except at dinner, but I shall look at the book you mentioned. Strange name. Liz

>Well WHAT IF Susan spends the next 10 years >fulfilling her list and sees everything to be seen in >East Africa. Then she finally goes to Botswana. >And realises that she loves it much more and >would have rather visited Botswana for at least >some of those trips over the last 10 years?

OH-kay... now that I understand. Yes, good point.
I do agree it is good to move around.

I am sorry to report that it does not look like any of my numbers came up on tonight's lottery drawing. Boo-hoo!
In the meantime, I am going to continue planning my Kenya/Tanzania trip for October this year. Perhaps Botswana or Zambia in 2006, as I do not think my travel budget will allow a trip in 2005. Damn - winning that lottery really would have come in handy! Oh well ..

Oh NO!!! Not even ONE number? And I was so hoping for you. I think I was anyway. But now thinking back.......uh oh! You don't think that hurt you do you? I was only trying to help.
Kavey did make a good point. What if you later regret all of these trips to Kenya AFTER you discover Botswana? Did you ever really think that through? This may be the supreme power's answer to your wants. I hear sometimes the answer is no. It just isn't my fault!

Liz:

Wonder if you would mind letting me in on the problems you encountered when you were considering living in Kenya. I too am considering buying/building a home in the next couple of years and would like to know in advance what I am up against. How long ago was it that you were investigating, and would the same problems remain today?

Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Jan

Jan-
I'll give it some thought. I prepared a long post to you then I deleted it. I just can't be sure who all could read it. Even if I disguise some people, I've found that you can caution someone but they will do exactly what they wanted to do anyway. So maybe I'll do it again, but it is difficult to put in writing. Liz
