Here's a link - I just sent an email to Ahmed Yousif to make sure he's OK.

Terrible news, my condolences to the victim's family.
In the article it is mentioned that there are many fires on cruise ships navigating the nile
My cousin is in Cairo and he is going to be on the oberoi cruise in a couple of days, so was kind of worried

The article said, "The five-star M/S Aurora features 42 suites and is one of many cruise ships taking tourists on weeklong trips up and down the Nile to visit the Pharaonic-era ruins found between the temple city of Luxor and Aswan, according to travel Web sites.
In February 2006, an electrical short circuit caused a fire that destroyed three cruise ships anchored side by side, also in Luxor."
sonali74 - I think you skimmed it too fast. It doesn't say there are many fires on cruise ships. It says there are many cruise ships taking tourists on week long trips.... etc. etc. and then it goes on to talk about a fire that burned up 3 ships.
It's not good, but it's not as bad as you made it sound, I don't think.

Hell no! If someone wants to take me on any cruise, I'm there! It is certainly a lot safer than Cairo city streets and I fend them off every day. Call me a dare devil if you will, but I think they are plenty safe as are the Nile cruises.

In Feb 2006, 3 ships were destroyed by fire as a result of a single incident. 22 months later, 1 ship is destroyed by fire.
While 4 ships were destroyed - there were not 4 separate incidents. Only 2....almost 2 years apart. Stuff can happen anywhere anytime, but to me this does not represent some kind of normal occurrence.
I'm with Debbie.....sign me up for a Nile Cruise anytime! I"m free next week!!!!
